Leaders hosted missional fellowship and prayer gatherings in Denver, Austin, New York, Singapore and San Francisco

In January 2022, the world was still grappling with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many were isolated and lacking purposeful connections. Recognizing the need for a trusted community in the rapidly evolving Web3 space, a group of Christian friends in Singapore led by Jason, Wen, and John Kim launched a private WhatsApp group called ‘Christians in Crypto (CiC)’. Their goal was to create a safe space for builders and investors to support one another.

God used this thread to draw people together in tangible friendship, belonging, and shared vision. Many members said that before joining they felt like they were the only believers in the Web3 space – and it was a joy and relief to find out this community existed. As word spread about the group, current members referred their friends from around the world.

By April, leaders began hosting Zoom video conference calls for members to share their faith and work journeys and learn from one another’s expertise. These gatherings not only provided an avenue for personal growth and spiritual development but also served as a launchpad for collaborations and innovative ideas that combined faith, work, and Web3 thought leadership.

In July 2022 governments continued to lift COVID restrictions, making travel possible again. Dozens of members gathered to meet in person and pray, fostering even stronger bonds through attending the same conferences and events in Denver, Austin, New York, Singapore, and San Francisco. With the growing momentum from finding global partners, the founding team recognized that God was calling CiC to unite believers into a missional prayer movement – and so they brought on John Knox as CiC’s first Executive Director and rebranded as Christians in Web3 (CW3).
